Atmosphere
On our first visit to the Isla Rio Cuale, we crossed a bridge from the busy downtown near the giant indoor market and walked down some stairs that delivered us to the door of a beautiful open and airy restaurant called the River Cafe. Like its neighbor Le Bistro, the River Cafe serves three meals a day, offers Jazz (voted best live music in PV in 2005), and is open to the air overlooking the River Cuale--making it a very refreshing stop for visitors to the tropical climate. Part of the restaurant is under a roof but the rest is under glass--very attractive like a large garden conservatory.
Service
Professional staff greeted and seated us and our waiter spoke good English making it easy to ask questions and order our lunches. Service was attentive.
Food & Drinks
We had chilled bottled water to refresh ourselves after walking and shopping in the heat. One of our party tried the soupa de tortilla Azteca--a traditional Mexican soup of creamy tomato consume with corn tortilla strips and avocado sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Two of us tried the trio of quesadillas Campesinas: a spinach, a squash blossom, and a huitlacoche served with rice and beans--all three of these were very nice, but the spinach was my favorite. Last but not least was an order of the chicken enchilladas in red sauce--the two enchilladas were small but tasty.
Dessert
No one was up for desserts as we had more walking and shopping to do, but the creme brulee served with an almond wafer and red fruit sauce would have been my choice.
