Red Rooster Cafe is a small, very cute eatery in the historic town of Jerome, AZ. It has one main dining area with a bar tucked into a corner, black banquets along one side, and tables and chairs filling the remainder. The wainscoting and butterscotch walls, large framed mirrors, rooster art, and pressed tin ceilings give the cafe an old timey feel.
Food
I had a lunch special that was $9.00 including a house salad with creamy feta dressing, the special tomato cilantro soup and a piece quiche. The soup was creamy and smooth but spicy, with a distinctly Indian flavor. The quiche had three cheeses and mild green chilies. My dining companion had the sweet potato, black bean corn chowder (that's a mouthful!), which had a broth base with large soft chunks of potato, beans, onion, celery, red peppers, and corn. She also had the pressed Caprese sandwich, made with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and a savory a balsamic reduction, served like a panini on ciabatta bread. It was very mild in flavor but had a good, somewhat chewy texture.
Dessert
We tried the peach cobbler--big pieces of peach with a crunchy crumble and a rich vanilla ice cream. Our other selection was the croissant bread pudding. A large piece of croissant was sliced in half and soaked in a cinnamon flavored batter and cooked but still soft, then drizzled with cream. This version was a really good twist on old fashioned bread pudding.
