This local favorite had closed for quite some time after a fire and reopened about a year and a half ago. It's prettier and more comfortable with a very neutral decor--in predominantly earth tones-- and local artists' work for sale on the walls or some tasteful seasonal touches. The long narrow space is widened in the middle by mirrors and has tables and the bar to the rear and soft, comfy suede booths in the front. The staff is friendly and helpful, service is very good; I imagine it would be easy to become a 'regular' at the Golden Egg Omelet House.
Food
101 Omelets are available--just about every combination imaginable--and that's not including any customizations! The omelets are large 3 egg beauties, taking up about half the plate and are simply stuffed with the selected fillings. On this day I had the #79 with avocado, bacon, tomato, green onion, and jack cheese. It comes with toast of your choice. Another omelet I like is one with spinach, mushroom and cheese, but there is no point in listing any more because the sky is the limit. In addition to the omelets there are 9 eggs benedict dishes, plus other egg breakfasts, French toast, pancakes, waffles, simply the best homemade cinnamon rolls around, as well as daily specials--a lot of choices. My dining companion had a breakfast of 2 sunny side up eggs cooked perfectly and served with toast, crispy hash browns, and a large slice of fried ham. On the lunch menu there are a page of sandwiches, a page of hamburgers, and a page of salads. You could even have a breakfast or lunch cocktail because at the back of the restaurant is a small bar, primarily used at night when the restaurant becomes the Grant Avenue Bar & Grill (read our review). Everyone in the family can be happy about eating here.
