Atmosphere

The restaurant is an attractive open lodge-like building, with high ceilings, wood beams, stone walls, and fireplaces. It has a large bar and huge main room, plus a small porch-like room in front for private parties. When weather is nice there is an outside patio area with stone fireplaces. In the lobby is a case of cigars for those looking to top off a great meal with a smoke! Wild Fox is located in Ignacio next to Highway 101 and the Best Western Hotel

Appetizers

The calamari is crispy fried, but has too much oily batter for me. I would, however, dip anything in the accompanying house made tartar, which tastes like it contains a touch of pesto. Mudbug (crayfish) fritters are fun, especially since we don't usually see them on western menus. The Caesar salad is excellent, and the baby spinach salad with a maple mustard dressing was good as well. In fact, Wildfox's entire salad menu looks tempting.

Food

Most recently we tried several entree specials. The first was Alaskan Halibut over a wild rice mixture, with grilled Brussels sprouts (I haven't ever liked them so much at a restaurant before!) topped with curls of scallions. The plate looked and tasted superb. The second special was a hangar steak, pieces of which were sliced and arranged around a mound of mashed potatoes. It was served with a rich sauce and (unfortunately) undercooked asparagus spears. Other than the asparagus, this dish was, again, very good. Other dishes we have tried and enjoyed on separate occasions include the angel hair pasta with prawns (a good portion of flavorful pasta, diced tomatoes, and large prawns), the seafood risotto, Wildfox burger (big and tasty), roasted vegetable tower (very attractive!), and Shanghai noodles with spicy vegetables.

Dessert

A particularly good offering was the warm caramel bundt cake with ice cream and brown sugar sauce, but looking over the list of choices, I found myself craving at least four others--suffice it to say that their dessert selection is decadent!
